A founding member of the show, SPECO was pleased to once again exhibit at the 33rd annual
ShoWest this year in Las Vegas. As always, Bally's was the host site of our industry's largest and most exciting show.
As in many of the past years, many show participants and guests spoke breathlessly of D-cinema at ShoWest. However, there is no clear need within the industry. Time and time again, we heard these talking points echoed by visitors to our booth concerning D-cinema:
No improved visual quality over film.
No secure business model for ownership of equipment.
No proven (large) additional revenue stream generation.
No guaranteed compatability down the road.
Continued 'virtual' print fees - for what?
Many times higher total cost of ownership compared with film.
These are what we heard from customers and industry members just like you. As you can see, D-cinema still isn't WOWing anyone. At some point in the future, there will come a time when D-cinema overcomes these problems and supplants film. For now, however, SPECO believes there are significant reasons to continue using film, and all of them make sense long-term.
